Almost everyone in the UK can remember their acting debut in their primary school’s nativity play. It’s one of the rare moments parents get to see their children trying their best in school.

With COVID restrictions meaning that parents couldn’t visit the school, we helped one Multi Academy Trust find a new way to create beautiful memories for their schools’ children and families.

For primary schools at The White Horse Federation, we arranged for Christmas performances and carol concerts to be streamed live on Crowdcast.

By streaming the event live through a private platform, the schools avoided GDPR and permission issues, obtained a copy of the recording to share with parents, and maintained the joy of a live performance watched with parents.

Not only that, working with Eduprise, only minimal preparation was required from school staff, a great relief to busy teachers.

For each school, we set up ‘crowdcast rooms’ for each performance session. All the school then had to do was send a private link to parents and inform them of the time and date, run a quick 10 minute demo to check audio and video, and click record once the performance was ready to go live.

It’s been a real joy to be a part of this year’s Christmas plays and carol services, and getting close to the fantastic goings ons at schools is one of the best parts of our work.

It also shows how, with the right application of technology, solutions can be found for complicated and unusual situations.
